PHOENIX — Grand Canyon University kicked off the new academic year with a high-energy Welcome Week, welcoming thousands of new and returning students to campus with traditional celebrations, athletic victories, and student community events.
Associated Students of GCU (ASGCU) reported strong engagement across several events designed to integrate new students into campus life. In the Thunderground, ASGCU hosted a dedicated outreach gathering specifically targeting first-generation and incoming students, connecting hundreds with student government leaders and campus resources.

Later in the week, the popular Silent Disco drew massive crowds. Lines of eager attendees stretched from the GCU Arena all the way back to the Commuter Hub well before the doors opened. Interviewees described the event as playing "tiktok music"
Campus spirit reached a peak at Lopeapalooza, where a packed stadium cheered on the GCU women’s volleyball team. The Havocs and student section rallied the team to a dominant performance as the Lopes swept their match 3-0. Following the victory, the GCU Cheer and Dance teams took to the floor to teach incoming freshmen classic chants, battle cries, and game-day traditions.

The week concluded Saturday night with a large-scale worship gathering on the Grove Field. Thousands of students gathered for hours of outdoor worship, followed by free free panckaes. Early the next morning students embarked on the year's first "Acts 2" trip to the Grand Canyon. The Lopes hope to end Welcome Week with a win on Sept. 7th against Houston Christian in men's soccer.
