The Grand Canyon University campus buzzed with energy this past Monday as the Future Broadcasters (FBC) hosted their annual awards lunch and ceremony. The event served as a significant milestone for the Class of 2026, celebrating the technical skill and storytelling prowess developed throughout their time in the program. The afternoon began with a series of icebreaker games and lunch, allowing students to connect and relax before the formal recognition began. Following the meal, the program transitioned into the awards presentation, where broadcasters and attendees were invited to share words of affirmation.

The ceremony was marked by personal tributes as several students took to the podium to reflect on their time in the program. GCU FBC senior Brooklyn JeanMarie Jones described her experience as a "Journey of growth and happiness," while Kalkidan Meyer encouraged peers to "Put your self out there" And, "just do it." Matthew Stengrim reflected on his time at the university, stating, "Its been a blessing coming here." Melodi Jenkins, who accepted her honors with a British accent, told her classmates, "I love all you guys," and Racheè Hatch offered a final piece of advice to those remaining in the program: "Pour you heart into it."
Clark Bennett was named EP of the Year, while Melodi Jenkins took home the title of Anchor of the Year. In the sports department, Spencer was recognized as Sports Anchor of the Year.The awards for field work went to Dani Reta for Reporter of the Year and Cade Faust for Story of the Year. The highest individual honor of the afternoon, the program MVP, was awarded to Zoey Peterson. As these broadcasters prepare to transition from the campus to professional newsrooms, the afternoon served as a final testament to their dedication to the craft and their commitment to the FBC community.
